Woman Inc supports the work of The Advocates Network and their fight against Gender Based Violence
Woman Inc. received packages containing food and water supplied from JAYECAN for delivery to women in the Kingston Metropolitan area as part of its COVID-19 response.
JAYECAN is a non-profit organization that seeks to involve the youth of Jamaica in areas of the arts, culture, and volunteerism for change. JAYECAN, stands for Jamaican Youth Empowerment through Culture Arts and Nationalism. It started in December of 2013 by three university students. Today, JAYECAN creates teams, builds projects and executes them within the social contexts of the various target populations. They have volunteers from various tertiary level institutions including the UWI, UTECH and The Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts. Not only do they seek to empower youth by bringing activities to them, but they also have decided to bring empowerment in the lights of endorsements. Where they pledge to highlight young people who have decided to make a difference by pursuing their passion or leading social change initiatives.
The Jamaican Bar Association (JBA) to Provide Legal Services to Victims of Domestic Violence - 2021
The JBA is pleased to launch its project to provide pro bono legal services to victims of domestic violence. This initiative is in collaboration with Woman Inc., an NGO that creates “An Oasis of Support”, shelter and services for women. Jamaican women who are victims of domestic violence will be able to receive free legal services following the signing of a memorandum of understanding on November 12, 2021 between the Jamaican Bar Association and Woman Incorporated.
Supporting Survivors of Domestic Violence – Spotlight Initiative & JAYECAN donates care packages - 2021
Woman Inc received 122 care packages containing essential hygiene supplies. Spotlight Initiative donated 106 care packages and JAYECAN donated 16 large care packages plus 5 gallons water bottles.
The care packages donated by JAYECAN and Spotlight Initiative were distributed to support women within communities impacted by gender-based violence throughout this period of COVID19.
2021 Partnership Forum – Partnership for Peace, Planet and Prosperity
On the 76th anniversary of the United Nations, the UN Country Team commemorated this milestone by engaging national stakeholders in a dialogue on the power of partnerships. The aim is to reaffirm and recognise that our challenges are interconnected and can only be addressed through reinvigorated multilateralism and partnership - with which Jamaica continues to lead and exemplify on the global stage.
RISE Life Civil Society Boost Initiative Workshop series – 2017-18
Developed and implemented a training series on Gender based Violence and TIP (Trafficking In Persons) for community and church affiliated groups, “Male only” groups, and emergency call personnel such as Crime Stop, 119, and Hotline with to raise awareness on vulnerable persons & GBV.
Community Outreach & Training Workshops - 2015
Woman Inc. designed and implemented this workshop for youth groups affiliated with community churches to raise awareness on the negative impact of Gender-based violence and gain commitments to “work for Change”. We also conducted training workshops for hotline volunteers selected to provide counselling on the 24-hour hotline to victims of GBV. Sponsored by Johnson & Johnson.
Health Policy Project (HPP) – 2013-14
Screening for GBV (gender Based Violence) in Health Care settings, and in the context of HIV/STI. This pilot involved adapting a screening tool and protocol for conducting interviews and making referrals based upon screening results; along with the training of Healthcare professionals and mapping and training Referral agencies.
